Found beauty

Sometimes an inspiration can be found by the side of the road. I found these pretty flowers growing wild in our front yard. I grabbed a few Weck jars left-over from last summer's tomato confits, put a couple of flowers in each one and fill them with water. They became a simple and colorful flower arrangement for my dinner table.

now I feel safe to say that, in my own plush neighborhood, i walk by all the gardens and flowers cooing, "my aren't you prettyyyy," or I just blurt out to the blossoming trees, "you look so nice."

I wish I could have a yard or a garden, but it's a little bit difficult in Paris. Right now inspiration comes from the sunny weather and brought yellow ranunculus on our table.

Wow Pim, so pretty. I did something similar recently with limes and kumquats that still had their leaves on. I put them in tall cylinder glasses filled with water and used floating candles to top them off. Still, I didn't find the limes and kumquats growing in my garden. There's a whole lot of not much growing out there right now, but things are just starting to peek out. Yay Spring!

Oh how lovely! The only inspiration in my yard at present: tiny rose-colored flowers on the Japanese maple.

Here in the midwest, we're still waiting for the bulbs so, for now, I'm content with green shoots unfurling themselves. My family takes inspiration from the return of robins and from the Cooper's hawks that hunt in our wooded urban yard (we live just off the Mississippi River in St. Paul).

Gorgeous! I love found treasures like that. We grow bamboo, palms and a large banana tree. I use those leaves to dress up the tablescape and plates.

hey hey hey, did you see the tomato confit sample jar on the table saturday? i brought the jar you gave me to the market. jesse and i shared them with a few lucky customers. as pretty as those jars are stuffed with little sidewalk flowers i'll take mine stuffed with pretty little 'maters. that is the best way ever to presurve the flavor of a dry farm. time to float some borage flowers.

Aude, that is true, but there are still some wild flowers in the parks no? Even the most humble little pissenlit blossom will look good submerged in a jar. Try it.
