This is not a tasting note

No no, Chez Pim hasn't turned into Vinography. I do wonder what Alder would make of this, though.

Hi,Pim:
I've come to anticipate your photography as much as the written words. Do you ever talk about your photo skills (seeting up photos, asking permission of the locals) or the camera(s) you use?
Thanks for the inspiration on a rainy winter day.
Cheers.

I hate to admit it, Pim, but I buy THIS wine when I take friends on picnics from Nerac market. But, it's more than drinkable, goes well with rillettes and a baguette and, yes, is another reason why I love this Gascony, too. So wonderful to see it through your eyes! Come back soon.

Well, since you asked...
I LOVE IT. This is the way that village wine used to be several hundred years ago. When you wanted some, you lugged your jug down to the local wine producer and he filled it up in exchange for a few francs or a few scudi (italy was big on this too). There are still places in Italy where you can do this, and judging by the evidence above, some in France as well.
I certainly hope you asked for a taste, Pim.

Hi Pim, This reminds me of a little place in Nepi, just north of Rome. It was a little hole in the wall run by the veterans of the 2nd WW. They had a 2 ring cooker to make their food but they had a couple of huge vats (one red, one white) where you could bring a jug and buy some wine, so good I took 20 litres back to England . I returned recently and sadly it has gone. Ah the march of progress.
