Odds and ends from Tha Prachan market

It's been said that one could buy pretty much everything on the streets of Bangkok. I suppose I have a proof. I found a book called "Story of My Life" by someone who called herself Marie, Queen of Romania, in French, no less. The book was neatly laid out on a paper mat, next to the Illustrated History of French Literature, and amidst other odds and ends that proved more than a little odd and quite near the end of their respective lifespans.

Just a quick correction, a better transaltion for the title of the second book would be: "Illustrated History of French Literature". Not that it matters that much.

Thanks Magictofu. I thought so at first, but my Petit Robert disagreed, so I let it win. Thanks for the correction. :-)
cheers,

I thought this photo was quite poignant. It made me think about all the hands the objects must have passed through before ending up on a vendor's mat at a market in Bangkok.

In case you're curious: Marie of Romania was a sort of 1920s Princess Di (she was also known as Marie of Edinburgh). More importantly, she was the subject of this great Dorothy Parker ditty:
Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
A medley of extemporanea;
And love is a thing that can never go wrong;
And I am Marie of Romania.
