Cooking should come with a warning label?

Cookingbanana

I've been going to Shalimar for ages, but this last thursday was the first time I really looked at the menu. And look what nugget of wisdom I found hidden in it:

Cooking in your own kitchen
can make you go bananas!

Oh, that's what cooking has done for me. Explains a lot, huh? Now that my kitchen is all packed in many many boxes, would I regain my sanity soon, you think?

seems to me your sanity should have come back a long time ago. Do you cook??? From what I've seen in your blog all you do is eat out and name drop all the MANY FABULOUS restaurants and chefs you have personal contact with. Is it a food blog or a "my fabulous gourmet life" blog?

Your sanity should have returned a long time ago. Do you cook???? From what I've witnessed here in your "food" blog it's more about name-dropping all the many famous chefs and FABulous restaurants you've experienced in your travels. Is it a food blog or "Pim's fabulous and privaliged gourmet life" blog???

ok...sorry, I'm repeating myself

uh-oh, i think i'm repeating myself...oops!

Wha-Tah-Nah-Siam!

Mark, do you have problems with short term memory? Try to make a note to yourself next time you post something so that other poor people like myself don't have to read your silly comments IN DUPLICATE.

The article you are posting about is about a cheap Pakistani restaurant in the Tenderloin, in SF, far from glamorous, and I happen to know that Pim is an excellent cook.

This is an excellent blog, and if you don't enjoy the style or subject matter, I have news for you: You don't have to read it.

Javier, i was referring to months worth of reading, not just the most current posting. I'll take your advice. Thanks

Mark,

You certainly are quite observant, aren't you? Months of reading my blog and you still didn't know if I could cook. Quite observant indeed.

And yes, I am lucky enough to have an interesting life, travel, and eat out at many fabulous restaurants, that's sort of the point of this blog, no? It would make for a very dull blog if I had a boring life, never traveled, never ate out, and never met or knew anyone interesting. Especially since, according to you, I didn't even know how to cook!

You know, I might even change the tag line on the blog to be My Fabulous Gourmet Life. Thanks for the idea.

I don't see a point of being falsely modest. I write about things I know, places I travel to, people I meet. Why should I not? I'm lucky, yes. Perhaps I don't deserve to be this lucky, but hey, what do you want me to do? People say when life gives you lemons you make lemonade, but no one ever tells you what to do when life just hands you chocolates!

Trust me, I am crappy at so many things in life, I just chose not to blog about it. I happen to be good at this food thing, and rather lucky at it besides, so I write about it. Sorry it irks you so, you are at liberty never to read it, you know?

cheers,
Pim

Zow, fun comments! Funny to see such intensity when you didn't even call anyone any names, like I do.

I say if cooking makes you bananas, so be it. I have always called myself a cashew, really, for it's such a tasty nut!

and as for the world handing you chocolates, I say make hot chocolate, let me have a sip, and use the rest for melting and rolling yourself in it!

Can Pim cook.... Well no first hand experience but going on her recipes and the pictures I have no doubts.
Can I cook.... personally I think that I can get away with not burning stuff and no one complains (could that have something to do with the sharp knife).
Good luck with the chocolates by the way. Still reading when you are writing.

Hey Pim
back to Shalimar...
I noticed the same thing back in April. Funny, huh!

Sam, that is funny. Did you have goat curry?

Shuna and Matthew, thanks. :-)

cheerio,
Pim

oh dear pim...we were just at Shalimar...I'm garlic naan'd out...

Did I miss something? Why is your kitchen packed in many many boxes? For whatever reason, I would think that would make you even more bananas.

I just finished moving to a new place (which explains why I'm a little behind on all the foodbloggers' news) and have just finished unpacking and arranging my kitchen. What fun! Geting the kitchen in working order was first on my new household agenda. It's the one room in the house that can make a new place feel like home.

Celeste,

Yes you did miss quite a bit. I packed and moved and unpack in two places!

I'm sending you a pair of chopsticks. ;-)

cheers,
Pim
